    Aug - Dec 600 Hours 4pm-10pm Chesapeake Campus Students will also participate in additional clinical time outside class.

    As the role of the pharmacist changes to meet future needs, pharmacy technicians will be called upon to perform more and more duties. This program prepares graduates to assist pharmacists in IV admixture and prescription preparation and procedures. Upon completion, graduates will be eligible to take the National Certification Examination. The Pharmacy Technician program is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). Courses offered during this program include, but may not be limited to:

    The goals of the pharmacy technician program are:

    1. Student/graduate has skills adequate to function as an entry level pharmacy technician.
    2. Student/graduate competently assists the pharmacist in all aspects of pharmacy.
    3. Student/graduate displays good communication skills.
    4. Student/graduate utilizes critical thinking and problem solving skills.
    5. Student/graduate uses measures to improve and maintain safety in the pharmacy.
    6. Graduate is prepared to sit for and pass the national exam.

    The learning objectives for the pharmacy technician program are:

    1. Gain career awareness and the opportunity to prove their abilities in their career choice.
    2. Enhance their education experience by receiving laboratory and clinical experience related to their career interests prior to graduation.
    3. Receive greater meaning and comprehension for formal course work by integrating classroom studies with laboratory exercises and formal clinical experiences.
    4. Receive exposure to specialized facilities and equipment sometimes unavailable in the classroom setting.
    5. Develop confidence, maturity, responsibility, and skills in human relations.
    6. Increase employability potential after graduation.
